Artists impression of redevelopment plans for St Albans City HospitalWe are creating a rapid access diagnostic and surgical hub, to serve the people of Hertfordshire and beyond.

A brand-new surgical centre is being built and is due to open this year.

With four modern operating theatres, it will increase the range and volume of our surgical care, leading to shorter waiting times for patients.

We have begun work on a new endoscopy unit, which will provide access to the latest endoscopy tests, helping to diagnose illnesses faster and keep people healthier.

Our new Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) will provide diagnostic tests and scans to help reduce waiting times and provide access to planned diagnostic care nearer to home. This will include two MRI scanners, two CT scanners and three ultrasound rooms.

In addition to these developments, urgent care and outpatient appointments will continue to be provided.
