Staff at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust came together to celebrate ‘All Stars Week’ in July – a week focused on celebrating the cultural richness, dedication and hard work of the trust’s workforce.

Running between Monday 3 July and Friday 7 July, the week saw more than 2,000 staff across all of the trust’s sites enjoying delicious food – from Caribbean and Indian traditional cuisine to the Best of British menus in staff restaurants and barbeques. There was also entertainment for staff which included steel drums, and music from the Connect choir – the trust’s multicultural staff network. The trust also marked a special birthday as the NHS turned 75 on Wednesday 5 July.

Andrew McMenemy, chief people officer, paid a visit to colleagues on night duty at WGH as part of the special NHS 75 celebrations on 5 July. He said: "We had a great evening on Wednesday as part of All Stars speaking to staff in the main clinical building and thanking them for all their efforts and hard work in supporting our services and patients. The staff really loved the hot food and cream teas, and it was great to have a chat about how much we appreciate our amazing staff and what more we could do to support them. Thank you to everyone we met on Wednesday."

Kayleigh Rockett, West Herts’ wellbeing lead, said: "What a fantastic week it has been visiting our sites and staff to show appreciation of all the hard work they do every day. It has been wonderful to see so many staff and teams come together to enjoy some food and music. We hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the week of events in some way. Thank you to our fabulous Team West Herts!"

All of this could not have been possible without the generous support of the hospital charity Raise and main sponsors Smith and Nephew. Thanks must also go to Mitie colleagues and the hospitals’ estates teams for their support.
