West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust’s clinical engineering team have been awarded a renowned quality management system (QMS) certificate from the British Standards Institution (BSI).

The quality certification (known as ISO 9001:2015) was awarded following a BSI audit to assess the performance of the trust’s QMS. A QMS is a collection of processes and functions that allow the trust to continuously improve quality.

The clinical engineering team, led by Nata Zama, and Novuroze Fazal, quality system manager, have been working for over two years to achieve the certification. Together they have built and implemented a quality management system in accordance with the principles of the latest standard which helps them in their role of maintaining medical equipment to make sure it’s working properly and is safe to use.

West Herts is one of the few healthcare trusts to achieve this accreditation which demonstrates the clinical engineering department are audited and regulated to the highest standard. The success is in keeping with the trust’s core value of quality, ensuring that West Herts continues to provide the very best care for patients, every day.

Deputy director of environment, Fiona Wardil, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for our clinical engineering team which shows their hard work and dedication of the team. We are delighted we can support our clinical teams using the most effective and efficient methodology.”
