The board at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust will look to approve detailed costed options for the redevelopment of its three hospital sites on 31 May 2022.

A set of ‘preferred options’ include a new large clinical block to accommodate all the clinical services for this site on land adjacent to the current buildings at Watford General Hospital, and some new build with significant refurbishment at Hemel Hempstead and St Albans City hospitals.

Along with these detailed papers the board will also consider feedback from local residents, staff and interested stakeholders. Anyone who wants to find out more should visit www.westhertshospitals.nhs.uk/investinginourhospitals/getinvolved.asp to access a link through which to view the board papers and complete a feedback form or provide a submission of 500 words as an alternative. The deadline for all feedback is Sunday 22 May 2022, midnight.

Deputy Chief Executive, Helen Brown, said “The proposals lead by our clinicians and hugely experienced redevelopment team have allowed us to develop these costs for the different options for our buildings at Hemel Hempstead, St Albans City and Watford. Our staff and patients look forward to the new and improved buildings that are urgently needed and are pleased that we are at this important milestone taking us closer than ever to that.”

The range of options, including the preferred options, that are approved by the board will be taken forward into an outline business case for submission to the government for a funding decision in due course and the trust hopes to start construction in 2025.

A recording of our 6 May 2022 stakeholder update session set out what is in the papers and how to feedback. The recording can be found at the link given above.
