West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has welcomed Harvey Griffiths as non-executive director to its board, as non-executive director Paul Cartwright hangs up his hat after eight years' service.

Paul has contributed actively to the trust's development since joining the board in 2014, bringing over 20 years' management consultancy experience in finance and risk management to the table. He was chair of the finance and performance committee, a member of the great place committee and led on work around end of life care. He will continue to support the trust as he pursues training to become an end of life care volunteer.

The board's newest member Harvey Griffiths brings over 25 years' public sector investment, management and operations experience to the trust. He is the chief executive of Horizon, an institutional investment firm in social, affordable and market rent housing.

He has many years' experience of successful start-ups, new business creation, origination and acquisitions. Harvey is a non-executive director at a specialist commercial energy and utility procurement company, Inteb Managed Services Ltd, and has served as a governor and chair of finance at Watford Girls Grammar School since 2015.

Trust chairman Phil Townsend said: "We are delighted to welcome Harvey to the trust who brings with him extensive commercial finance, major public project and real estate investment experience. This will be of huge benefit to us as we prepare our outline business case on our hospital redevelopment programme for submission to the regulators later this year.

"I would also like to thank Paul Cartwright wholeheartedly for his invaluable contributions and commitment to West Herts over the years.

"Non-executive directors hold executive directors to account, by bringing independent, external perspectives to the table and ensuring the board acts in the best interests of patients and the public.
