Three hundred lucky staff from West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust were invited to the final UK show of Sir Elton Johns’ Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour at Vicarage Road.

Thanks to a very generous ticket donation from Watford FC and Sir Elton John, over 900 staff entered the trust’s ballot for a chance to see one of rock and pop’s greatest legends.

Grant Proudfoot, radiology receptionist, had bought a ticket for the Sunday show as well as winning one through the ballot. He described Sir Elton John as "absolutely Captain Fantastic".

Grant, nursing assistant Roselle Esperanza and director of communications Louise Halfpenny were interviewed for BBC Three Counties radio drivetime show before the concert began. They shared their excitement and gratitude to WFC.

Andrew McMenemy, chief people officer at West Herts, said: "This is a very big-hearted club and Sir Elton John has also shown his support and kindness in tough times. The smiles on the faces of our staff tonight show what a truly memorable evening this has been and we’re very grateful."

The tickets were another in a long line of kind gestures from WFC. They have looked after staff from the start of the pandemic, providing meals, a sanctuary and even washing the scrubs.
