Painting captures incredible team spirit of ICU colleagues during pandemic

Healthcare staff working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Watford General Hospital were deeply moved by a painting created and donated by fellow colleague, Lorraine Iveson.
The artwork, which depicts the ICU team’s strong bonds and camaraderie, was unveiled by Chief Nurse Tracey Carter and is now displayed with pride in the ICU for everyone to admire.
Lorraine, an ICU physiotherapist, painted the picture during the COVID-19 pandemic as a form of art therapy to help process her thoughts and feelings about the unprecedented situation.
She said: “Painting for me is my escape and helps me to focus my mind on other things. I wanted the painting to represent the amazing support and teamwork shown by all my colleagues in the ICU during the first and second waves of the pandemic. I hope it helps others to reflect on their emotions.”
Vicky Houghton, ICU matron, said: “This painting has made me reflect on the toughest two years we have had as a team. We really are like a family here and this painting is an expression of what we have overcome together.”
