Picture of Paul Cartwright, non-executive directorPaul Cartwright was originally appointed as a non-executive director to the trust in June 2015 and was re-appointed again in June 2016. His new term of office will end on 31 May 2018. Amongst his duties, Paul chairs the Audit committee and takes a particular interest in plans to improve the Trust's approach to treating people as they near the end of life.

The appointment was made by NHS Improvements who are responsible for appointing all chairs and non-executives to NHS trusts throughout England. All appointments are subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments, and made following an open competition based on merit, in a way that is open, transparent and fair to all applicants.

Paul has considerable skills and expertise being a Trustee of The Church Lands, a charity that supports the running of three parish churches in St Albans and Treasurer of St Peter’s Church. Paul previously worked for Accenture (management consultants) for more than 20 years, where he specialised in finance, risk management and regulation.

Professor Steve Barnett, Chairman of West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust said: "We are delighted that Paul has been reappointed to our board of directors. Over the years that he has served on our board he has made significant contributions to the development of our organisation. He is extremely well thought of – not only by his board colleagues, but also by staff across the organisation.

"I look forward to continuing to work with Paul over the coming years and drawing on his expertise to help the trust to deliver the highest levels of patient care to the Hertfordshire community."

Paul will receive a remuneration of £6,157 per annum, which is the current rate for all non-executive directors of NHS Trusts.
