Dr Dominic Grimer, Consultant Radiologist

Qualifications: MBBS FRCR Consultant General and Lead Breast Radiologist

Picture of Dr Dominic Grimer, Consultant RadiologistDr Grimer qualified in 1975 at St George's Hospital. London University and took up radiology in the late 1970s, obtaining FRCR in 1982.

He was appointed consultant radiologist at Hemel Hempstead Hospital and St Albans City Hospital in 1984 and now, following the recent service configuration, also at Watford General Hospital. He also works at Spire Hospital Harpenden.

His current areas of interest are in cross-sectional imaging and the radiological investigation of breast disease. The latter he undertakes both in the symptomatic clinic at St Albans City Hospital and the Beds and Herts Breast Screening Centre at Luton.

Dr Sonia Narula, Consultant Radiologist

Qualifications: MBBS MD DNB FRCR

Dr Sonia Narula Dr Narula did her general radiology training at Hammersmith and North West London Hospitals, followed by a breast imaging fellowship at Northwick Park and Edgware Breast Screening Unit. She was appointed at West Herts NHS Trust as Consultant in Breast Imaging and General Radiology in January 2009, with additional breast screening sessions at the North London Breast Screening Unit. 

Dr Narula's aim is to develop a complete range of diagnostic services for screening and symptomatic breast diseases with special interest in stereotactic and MR-guided vacuum procedures. Her research interests include the role of breast MRI in pre-operative diagnosis of cancer and in the high-risk screening population. She also participates in the general radiology workload, including sessions at the Watford Acute Assessment Unit.

Dr Emre Pakdemirli, Consultant Radiologist

Dr Emre PakdemerlieEmre Pakdemirli started his training in Radiology in Giessen-Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany in 1991 and completed in Izmir State Hospital, Turkey in 1995 becoming a Consultant in Radiology. He took up several consultant posts in University and State hospitals in Turkey and the UK. He has been involved in several research projects and published case reports in cited journals, such as AJR and Am J Gastroenterol.

He offers a full range of interventional ultrasound and mammography guided procedures for symptomatic breast disease. He is also experienced in general ultrasonography, CT and MRI and takes part in AAU service and on-call rota.

Dr Siham (Sam) Sudderuddin MBBS BSc MRCP FRCR

I was appointed as a Consultant at West Hertfordshire NHS Trust in 2016 with a specialist interest in Women’s imaging encompassing both Breast and Gynaecological Radiology. I particularly enjoy helping patients with their journey through the Breast Unit and putting them at ease.

I undertook my specialist radiology training at Imperial College NHS Trust and gained my Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2013. Prior to this, I graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2003 and rotated through a Senior House Officer Medical rotation at Frimley Park Hospital Foundation Trust and gained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2006.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my young family and all the activities this involves!

Helen Shipley, Lead Mammographer

Qualifications: DCR(R)

Picture of Helen ShipleyHelen qualified as a radiographer from Merseyside School of Radiography in 1982. She worked at West Middlesex University Hospital and the Devonshire Hospital in London before joining Hemel Hempstead General Hospital in 1986.

After taking a break from radiography she returned to Hemel Hempstead in 1995. She studied for the Certificate in Mammography at the Battlebridge Hospital, London and the University of Hertfordshire, gaining the qualification in 2000.

Along with her colleague Alison Low, Helen is Lead Radiographer in Charge of Mammography for West Hertfordshire NHS Trust.

Cathy McIlroy, Sister in Radiology

Qualifications: RGN

Picture of Cathy McIlroy RGNCathy qualified at the Royal Free Hospital and St.Mary’s Hospital in London in 1979. She worked as a staff nurse on the medical wards and the coronary care unit. From 1980-1984 she worked at the infectious diseases unit at Northwick Park Hospital. In 1985 she worked at the Clementine Hospital gaining further medical nursing experience.

Cathy then had a 5 year career break bringing up her family. She joined West Herts Trust on the nursing bank in 1990 and worked across a variety of clinical areas, taking on a permanent Staff Nurse position on Stuart Ward from 1992-1993.

Cathy joined the radiology team in 1994 and has 15 years' experience in breast radiology and became a nursing Sister in 2008.
