Biography

Meera is an award-winning consultant ophthalmologist who specialises in Medical Retina, Uveitis and complex Cataract surgery. Having previously held consultant posts at the Western Eye Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Meera undertook her ophthalmology training in the prestigious North Thames deanery after ranking nationally in the top 10 out of over 400 applicants, including two competitive fellowship years in Medical Retina, Uveitis and Cataract surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

After being awarded a place on the prestigious NHS England Clinical Entrepreneur Fellowship Programme, she built an award-winning commercial mobile app, PocketEye, that connects with community optometrists for advice, diagnostics and referrals. For her work, she was awarded the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Future Leader Award (2023), The Ophthalmologist and The New Optometrist Collaborative Eye Care Award (2024), the British Emergency Eye Care 1st prize for innovation in emergency eye care award (2023), and a £50,000 innovation grant from the UK Research and Innovation council.

In 2020, she was awarded a fully-funded academic scholarship to study her Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree, and has been featured in Business Insider and Health Tech World publications for her innovations.

A passionate educator, she also served as the Associate College Tutor (through the Royal College of Ophthalmologists) at the Western Eye Hospital, Imperial, overseeing the training and education needs of over 25 junior resident doctors per year, including overseas doctors achieving their consultant training. Through her work in education, she is recognised by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists as a CESR pathway assessor for overseas doctors.

She is currently the chair and lead of the North West London Uveitis network, and is regularly asked to deliver talks on clinical leadership and innovation.
