Integrated Urgent Care Hub opens at St Albans City Hospital
Posted: 11 November 2022
A new minor illness and injuries service has opened at St Albans City Hospital to increase access to same day urgent care.
The Integrated Urgent Care Hub (IUCH) treats a range of urgent but not life-threatening health conditions.
The hub offers appointments between 9am and 6pm, seven days a week and provides access to diagnostic services such as x-rays.
Patients are booked into the service, often with same day appointments, through NHS 111 or their GP practice. It is not a walk-in service.
The team treats patients over the age of 1 year. Babies and children under 1 year will be directed to other relevant services.
Patients are treated by nurses who have experience working in urgent care and emergency triage departments. The service is also supported by GPs who provide further medical support or treatment if needed.
The Integrated Urgent Care Hub runs from newly refurbished space in St Albans City Hospital which previously housed the Minor Injuries Unit. It is run by HUC who also provide the NHS 111 service locally.
