Dr Niall Keenan, Consultant Cardiologist and Divisional Director for Medicine at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, has been appointed President of the British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (BSCMR).
BSCMR is the UK’s national professional body dedicated to cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and is affiliated to the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS). As a registered charity, it plays a leading role in advancing CMR practice, education and research, supporting high quality diagnostic services across the UK.
Formed in 2006, BSCMR has evolved into the national voice for CMR and is one of only a small number of organisations worldwide dedicated exclusively to this specialist field. The Society is guided by an expert Board committed to innovation, research and excellence in cardiovascular imaging.
Dr Keenan combines his role at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust with an honorary appointment at Imperial College London. He trained in cardiology and general medicine in London after qualifying from the University of Oxford, with specialist training across cardiac MRI, CT, echocardiography and advanced heart failure at leading UK and international centres.
His appointment as President reflects both his individual contribution to the field and the wider impact of NHS clinicians in shaping national and international clinical practice.
