Thirty-three joyful families across west Hertfordshire welcomed the greatest Christmas gift as they celebrated the arrival of their festive newborns.

The midwifery team at Watford General Hospital had a busy Christmas period, supporting the births of 14 babies on Christmas Eve, nine on Christmas Day, and ten on Boxing Day.

The first baby born on Christmas Day was baby boy Ayaan, who arrived at 2.03am, weighing 3,100g. His proud parents - Rekhani and Kamal who are from St Albans – were overjoyed with his arrival.

Emma Mitchener, Interim Director of Midwifery and Gynaecology Nursing, said: “Seeing so many parents welcome their Christmas newborns was truly wonderful, and we congratulate every family who welcomed a little one this Christmas.

“An enormous thanks to our maternity staff, who devoted their festive period to safely bringing these little ones into the world, just as they do all year long.”
