Watford nurse Andrea Hone recently attended a Carers Reception at Windsor Castle, hosted by The King and The Queen, to celebrate and give thanks to    individuals who dedicate their lives to caring for others.

Andrea has devoted 25 years to nursing within the NHS, including the past 18 years at Watford General Hospital. She currently serves as Carers Lead Nurse at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where she leads the Caring for Carers Service, supporting unpaid carers and their families.

Andrea has been instrumental in shaping the Caring for Carers service for unpaid carers using our hospital services, ensuring carers are identified, recognised and supported. She has also established and developed dedicated support for members of staff who balance their NHS roles with unpaid caring responsibilities through the Trust’s Working Carers Network.

During the reception at Windsor Castle, Andrea had the opportunity to meet King Charles III and speak with him about her work supporting unpaid carers across West Hertfordshire.

Andrea said: “It was an absolute honour and privilege to be in attendance, representing West Herts, which was truly memorable.

“It was a hugely humbling experience, not only to have the opportunity to meet The King and the Duchess of Edinburgh, but I also had the opportunity to meet other representatives from carer organisations, carers and young carers – shining a spotlight that carers truly matter in all that they do.”
