West Hertfordshire Hospitals’ clinical coders are best in the country

Two clinical coding officers, Andrea Cardozo and Molly Deely, from West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust, have ranked top 10 in the country after achieving fantastic results in the National Coding Exam.

Clinical coders record information about every patient who visits the trust, investigating all aspects of their journey from start to finish.

Andrea has also been presented with the NHS Digital Award of Excellence after achieving the overall highest score in the country!

Both coders have worked extremely hard to receive their national qualification. This certifies them as accredited clinical coders and is the only clinical qualification recognised by the NHS.

The pair waited over a year to sit the exam after numerous cancellations due to social distancing measures. Andrea and Molly had to consistently familiarise themselves with the new standards, whilst embracing and supporting wider responsibilities at work.

Thankfully, arrangements were finally made to hold an online exam, which is the first time these exams were held electronically. After waiting three months in anticipation for their results, our fantastic clinical pair received the news of their great performance.

Andrea Cardozo said: “We are very grateful for the support we received from our management and clinical coding team. Overall, it was a long and eventful journey with a very happy ending.”
