St Albans Abbey rail station to St Albans City Centre - Route 3

This route runs from St Albans Abbey Railway Station to St Albans City Centre and will take approximately 15 minutes. The route joins Walking Route 1, which continues to St Albans City Hospital.

St Albans Abbey Railway station is the at the end of the Abbey Line; a pleasant train line connecting St Albans with Watford Junction Station and thence south to London or north to North to Milton Keynes and beyond. The service is operated by is served by London Northwestern Railway.

Start the walk outside St Albans Abbey railway station.

Come out of St Albans Abbey Station and turn right onto the main road (Holywell Hill). Cross over Prospect Road, Latium Close.

Continue up Holywell Hill, crossing Belmont Hill.

Carry on up Holywell Hill crossing Sopwell Lane, then Albert Street on your right. The road starts to steepen here.


When you reach the crossroads with London Road, go straight across at the pedestrian crossing. The road ahead now becomes Chequer Street.

Carry on up Chequer Street.

When you pass the Maltings shopping centre on the right, the pavement can be narrow.

After the Maltings Shopping Centre you'll arrive at the junction with Victoria Street. Cross at the pedestrian crossing into St Peter’s Street and join route 1 to carry on to the Hospital.
