Return to practice, and retire and return

Return to practice

Ready to reignite a fulfilling career in nursing, midwifery or the allied health professions? Your experience and skills are invaluable to us, and we’re here to help you return with confidence.

Nursing and Midwifery

The NHS has a programme to help you renew your registration with your professional body and re-enter practice with competence and confidence. There are several ways to return to practice:

At West Herts, we offer a variety of placements for Return to Practice nurses and midwives. With a dedicated Practice Assessor, alongside the Undergraduate training team, we’ll ensure you have all the support that you need.

Please note, requests for a placement at West Herts must come via your course leader once enrolled on a Return to practice programme, as detailed above.

Retire and return

By agreement, an employee can retire and receive pension benefits and return to work (subject to availability) on either a bank, part-time or full-time basis.

Where an employee would like to apply for retire and return i.e. so that they can claim their pension and then return to work, they must complete the appropriate application form and submit this to their line manager.
