Gynaecological Oncology Centre

Watford Gynaecological Oncology Centre is a tertiary cancer centre providing care for the female population of North London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. The Centre is supported by three Gynaecological Oncology Consultant Surgeons. Mr Malcolm Padwick leads the service, along with Mr Paul Stanciu and Mr Alasdair Drake. The team is assisted by two Macmillan Oncology CNS Avril Godley and Caroline Bulley.

Our workload is close to 400 new cancer cases treated every year. Within the department there is extensive experience in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Our Gynaecological Cancer Centre is one of the few cancer centres in the UK preforming supra-radical surgery for ovarian cancer introduced by Mr Stanciu.

There is a weekly joint MDT with Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and Lister Hospital. Follow up treatment and management of our patients is given through outpatient clinics across all four sites. Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy treatment is delivered mainly in Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

Elizabeth ward is the main inpatient ward for the patients treated in Watford Gynaecological Cancer Centre. The ward has adequately trained staff to look after the patients that have major gynaecological surgeries. Furthermore, there is a dedicated Enhanced Recovery CNS and all our patients benefit from a newly introduced Enhanced Recovery Protocol.
