Surgical Appliances
Introduction
Orthotics, or Surgical Appliances as it is often referred, to is the supply and fitting of an externally applied device used to modify the structural and functional characteristics of the neuro-muscular and skeletal system.
The principal Orthotic services involve the supply and fitting of orthopaedic footwear and a range of callipers, splints and surgical collars and specialist support/compression stockings. The service also supplies and fits a range of breast prosthesis and wigs.
Patients are referred via their treating clinician or their GP. Patients are assessed by trained orthotists and supported by site based appliance officers.
