About ENT/Head & Neck Surgery
Ear, Nose & Throat/Head & Neck Surgery is a surgical specialty that covers the treatment and care of patients with a wide range of symptoms and illnesses. We can often help our patients using medicines and advice first and using surgery only where necessary.
Common ear problems include hearing loss, blocked ears, ear infections, tinnitus, balance problems, glue ear, perforated ear drums, cholesteatoma and prominent ears.
Problems with the nose and face may include nasal congestion, runny nose, catarrh, loss of sense of smell, hay fever, nasal allergies, polyps, sinusitis, facial pain, facial swelling, nasal and facial lumps and bumps, facial palsy, nosebleeds, nose injuries and deformity.
Examples of throat problems are tonsillitis, tonsil stones, throat irritation, feeling of a lump in your throat, phlegm, dry cough, swallowing problems, voice problems, laryngitis, snoring, apnoea, mouth dryness and soreness. These can be caused by many underlying causes that include infection, not drinking enough water, acid reflux and growths.
Many of our patients come to us with neck lumps. These are often due to salivary gland problems like growths or stones, or thyroid goitres or nodules, or enlarged lymph glands, but can be due to many more illnesses besides including cancers.
