More about the trust

Smokefree

Breathe easy - we're smokefree!

For the health and wellbeing of our staff, patients and visitors, we are smokefree, and we hope you're seeing the benefits of this with far less cigarette smog around our hospital sites. The additional signage, lack of smoking shelters and wealth of available information is helping to reinforce this message.

Smoking is the single greatest cause of preventable ill health and so we would like to shelter individuals from smoking itself and harmful passive smoking.

We want to ensure that we promote a healthy lifestyle, not just for our patients and their visitors, but also for our staff. We want all of our service users and our staff to visit and work in the safest and healthiest possible environment.

Dr Abi Jackson, respiratory consultant, said: “I am very pleased that our trust has decided to make this leap to go properly smokefree. Smoking is addictive and responsible for so many health problems, both in smokers and passive smokers, and we are saying it’s not ok to smoke in or around our hospitals."

We are providing advice and support to all patients that come into our care by asking their smoking status, and offering them aids to stop smoking, including nicotine replacement therapy. We also have smoking cessation clinics. Dates and times are below.
