Women's and Neonatal Services

Gynaecology Day Assessment Unit

The Service

Ms Awala leads the gynaecology Emergency Service, and the team has recently benefited from the recruitment of a second Clinical Nurse Specialist. The service caters for approximately 5,000 women per year, who are currently referred by either their GP or from A&E. Once this referral has been made patients are sent directly to the Gynaecology Emergency Unit based on Elizabeth ward at Watford General hospital.

The department also benefits from an Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU), which provides a comprehensive scanning service performed by a midwife sonographer and review of these scans by an early pregnancy nurse. The service is also supported by a Bereavement Counselling Service, which ensures patients receive the best possible standard of care. There are also plans to set up a Recurrent Miscarriage / Pre-Pregnancy Counselling Clinic which will provide better support to patients.

The Gynaecology Day Assessment Unit service is Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
