Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit

This is a specialist unit, which manages early pregnancy emergencies such as abdominal pain and or bleeding from 6 until 13 weeks. A GP referral is required and appointments are made as soon as they are available. Ultrasound scans of the pelvis by experienced nurse sonographers and Consultants are performed and depending on the result, further examination and blood tests are carried out in GDAU.

If admission is required, patients are admitted to the gynaecology ward called Elizabeth ward or day surgery unit.

Ongoing support and advice in early pregnancy is available in person or by telephoning either the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit or Gynaecology Day Assessment Unit.

The service:

The Unit is open from Monday – Friday: 8.30am to 5pm.

Saturday: 10am to 4pm.

We are closed on Sundays.
