Clinical Services

Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit

Services available:

This is a specialist unit, which manages early pregnancy problems such as abdominal pain and/ or bleeding from 6 till 13 weeks. Scans by experienced sonographers are performed and depending on the result, further examinations and tests such as blood tests are carried out in the Gynaecology Day Assessment Unit.

If admission is required, patients are admitted to our gynaecology ward: Elizabeth ward. If further scans are required, these may be carried out in the maternity scan dependent or via the Gynaecology Day Assessment Unit.

Ongoing support and advice is available in person or by telephoning either the EPAU or the Gynaecology Day Assessment Unit.

There are patient information leaflets available and we also offer investigations to patients who have had three or more miscarriages (recurrent miscarriages).

We also accept GP referrals for early scans in women who have had 2 or more miscarriages or a history of previous molar pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy.
