We provide high quality maternity care for women during their pregnancy, labour and after the birth of their baby

Choosing us

Welcome to our maternity unit at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We provide personalised and high-quality maternity care for women living in Hertfordshire and North London.

We are committed to providing high quality maternity care for women and their partners during their pregnancy, labour and after the birth of their baby.

We offer maternity care from a number of hospitals and community hubs. Our main maternity hospital is Watford General Hospital.

4,186 babies were born at Watford General Hospital in 2022.

Our maternity service at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust achieved a prestigious Health Service Journal 2017 award for its achievements in improving performance. Our service won the national workforce award for its successful drive to recruit and retain midwives.

Other innovations include setting up of the Lavender Team (a safeguarding team), a continuity-of-carer model under the 'Better Birth' strategy, and 'I see U'.

We support women in making informed decisions with regards to place of birth, as having this choice has been shown to have a positive effect on the birth experience.

We welcome women to have their baby with us. Please fill out our online self-referral form if you would like to book your pregnancy with us.
