Background

Professional Profile

I initially qualified in Cape Town, South Africa, and then specialised in internal medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa. I immigrated to the UK in 1995 to specialise in cardiology. I am a consultant cardiologist, and was appointed Chief Medical Officer of WHTHT in 2013.

I am involved in all aspects of cardiology, including acute coronary syndromes, valvular heart disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, etc, and continue to be actively involved in the implantation and renewal of pacemakers.

My Chief Medical Officer commitments are clearly focused on patient safety, clinical and corporate governance, and ensuring the best possible care for our patients. The redevelopment of the trust, including the new hospital build is a clear focus of attention, ensuring clinical engagement in the design and scope of the redevelopment of all of our sites.

Personal Profile

I am married, and have two daughters. I am an avid fisherman and enjoy watching rugby and cricket. My hobbies include gardening, wine collection, woodworking, and gourmet cooking.
