Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists help people improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments. They work with individuals who have conditions that are mentally, physically, developmentally, or emotionally impaired. Occupational therapists help clients make maximum use of their existing function. Their goal is to help clients have independent, productive, and satisfying lives.

Occupational Therapy, or OT, services are available on each Trust site. Some of the services offered include ward based assessments of activities of daily living, home visits assessing if the living arrangements are suitable for an individual after a stay in hospital, and advice as to any changes or adaptations needed.

The OT staff also work as part of the Acute Assessment Unit team at Watford General Hospital and aim to support safe and rapid discharge for people, however where necessary the OT staff will refer on to colleagues in the Princes Michael of Kent wing if a longer stay in hospital is required and there are ongoing OT needs identified.

The Occupational therapy staff often work closely with the physiotherapists and other therapy staff.
