What support is available?

There’s lots of support available for people who want to stop smoking - whether you wish to stop smoking permanently or for the duration of your stay with us.

We’re able to provide initial advice and inform you about the range of interventions available whilst in hospital which include Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). NRT works by releasing nicotine steadily into your bloodstream at much lower levels than in a cigarette, without the carbon monoxide, tar and other chemicals present in tobacco smoke.

Our smoking cessation advisors are dedicated to ensuring you continue to receive the onward support you need after you are discharged by referring you to the Hertfordshire Health Improvements Stop Smoking Service if you consent.

For any help or advice, please contact our dedicated advisors on westherts.smokingcessation@nhs.net.
