Sim room

We have a two bed bay in the simulation suite which can be filmed and streamed into the debrief room to ensure all participants are learning regardless of their active involvement with the simulation. All participants are expected to get involved with the debrief following the simulation, so this is a vital part of our setup.

Control room

This is where our faculty sit, including our technician, so the simulation runs smoothly. The computers that control the high fidelity manikins (Cedric, Rodger and Lucina), are based here along with a lot of the equipment that we use to make our scenarios as realistic as possible.

Debrief room

This is where most of the learning happens, either through observing or the debrief. All facilitators go through debrief training or are paired with experienced debriefers to ensure all facilitated learning conversations are safe and conducive of a highly educational environment.

We tend to use the TRUST debrief style, but facilitators are encouraged to use what they feel is best for the group they are educating as this may differ.

TRUST includes:

T – Termination of the scenario is clear

R – Reactions are expressed as soon as everyone gathers in the debrief room; this enables learning to occur

U – Understanding of what happened and why the participant(s) feel the way they do

S – Summary of the scenario and learning

T – Take home messages; what did the participant(s) learn from the scenario and what might they do differently next time
