About Wiser
WiSER, West Herts Initiative in Simulation Education and Research, is a small simulation team supported by a larger faculty of facilitators and simulation fellows. The main team consists of:
- Clinical Director
- Simulation Manager
- Simulation Technician
WiSER provides local and regional simulation based education.
Timeline:
2005
In 2005 a group of consultants from Anaesthetics and Emergency Medicine offered simulation based education to junior doctors at the University of Hertfordshire.
2010
In 2010 WiSER began as WiSE (West Herts Initiative in Simulation Education). Forming this panel allowed WiSE to oversee simulation activity and education within the Trust.
2015
In 2015 WiSE secured £211,910.00 in funding from a Sign up to Safety initiative to build a state-of-the-art simulation suite at Watford General Hospital. An additional donation of £60,000.00 from League of Friends paid for a high fidelity simulation manikin – SIMman 3G.
2015 was also the year WiSE became WiSER – West Herts Initiative in Simulation Education and Resuscitation.
2016
2016 was the year building works were completed and the new simulation suite had a soft open.
In 2017 the simulation suite was officially opened by Councillor Rabi Martins and the League of Friends. The suite was now running mandatory training for junior doctors and also had some teething problems. We were running at full capacity due to the simulation room being a shared space for resuscitation courses as well.
A business case was prepared for a separate resuscitation space to allow both services to run as best as possible.
2018
In 2018 the R in WiSER became Research and the Resuscitation service at the Trust now had their own space.
WiSER has seen the service grow from ad hoc sessions to fully formed programmes. This is expected to continue into the future.
