St Albans City Hospital

Our plans for St Albans City Hospital

We have a range of improvements planned on the St Albans site. Overall, our plan is to increase the range and volume of planned surgical care, including for cancer, as well as continuing to have urgent care and outpatient appointments including for ante and postnatal care. There are also plans to provide new diagnostic equipment at St Albans.

Two new operating theatres are due to open in the winter. These will be part of an Elective Care Hub, leading to shorter waiting times for patients from across Hertfordshire and west Essex. The theatres will be used to treat patients waiting for hip and knee surgery, spinal injections and ear, nose and throat procedures. This is a partnership with other hospital trusts in Hertfordshire and West Essex; with more information on the Integrated Care System's website about the new theatres.

Current position

Work on the constructing the new theatres is underway. This has meant the loss of some parking spaces at the hospital to make space for the building work. We are working on alternative options to increase parking and apologies for any inconvenience to patients and staff.
