Inpatient Guide - Visitor Information

Visiting hours vary throughout the Trust. Some wards may have rest periods when visitors are not allowed to visit. Please ask a member of the ward staff for details.

Infection Control

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust would like to encourage all visitors to use the wall mounted alcohol hand gel upon entering and leaving the wards. This will help to reduce the spread of infections. Hand washing and using alcohol hand gel are two of the simplest and most effective ways of preventing cross infections and protecting patients, visitors and staff.

Car parking

If your relative is a long stay patient and you are visiting them every day or several times a day, you may be entitled to car parking tokens, a permit or a concessionary parking car sticker on either the Watford General or Hemel Hempstead Hospital sites.

A small deposit may be required for the car-parking permit, which is refundable, and an official receipt will be given. The Ward Manager must approve all concessionary car parking and tokens and will make arrangements for you to collect them from the Patient Affairs departments during the hours of 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Flowers

Whilst the Trust does not wish to discourage relatives and friends from bringing in flowers, the Trust has had to make the decision, due to Health and Safety reasons, to no longer permit cut flowers that require a vase. However, cut flowers presented in an oasis block or in a sealed water bag will be allowed onto most wards. Please check with the ward first.
