Watford General Hospital is shouting from the rooftops to show its support for neighbours Watford Football Club as they reach the FA Cup final on Saturday 18 May.

The hospital, managed by West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, has given permission to the BBC to paint a mural on the side of its administrative block on Vicarage Road celebrating the Hornets’ success.

The mural, depicting Watford’s momentous journey to Wembley this season, features star players Heurelho Gomes, Troy Deeney and Gerard Deulofeu celebrating moments from their cup run. Brand experience agency The Park worked with the BBC and professional mural painters Grafitti Life who created the artwork in just two days at no cost to the trust.

Lloyd Major, production director of The Park, said: “We came down to Vicarage Road to scout for a suitable location, saw this wall and literally knocked on the door of the trust to see if we could use the space. We’re delighted that they gave their full blessing. We think the mural will be a brilliant addition for the town adding to the excitement of the final."

Christine Allen, chief executive at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust said:

"It’s fantastic to see such a buzz around Watford in the run up to the FA cup final. Watford FC are brilliant neighbours and we’re always grateful to their players who visit our children’s ward every Christmas. We wish them the best of luck on Saturday and I know that many of our staff and visitors will be cheering them on."

Anticipation for the big match is spreading throughout the trust as wards and clinical areas gear up for Saturday. Children’s play specialist Helen Cripps said: "Everyone on Starfish ward is really looking forward to Saturday. There are quite a few nurses who have tickets for Wembley and lots of us will be in Cassiobury park to watch the game on the big screen.

"Our patients and their mums and dads have really enjoyed decorating the ward in WFC colours and we’d like to say a big thank you to the mayor’s office for the bunting. We think the ward looks great!"
