Partial closure of staff car park at Watford General Hospital
Posted: 17 January 2019
Communications Team
Essential engineering works are currently taking place in the staff car park at Watford General hospital and sections of the car park will remain closed until 6pm on Friday 25 January.
The partial closure will enable Watford Borough Council, who own the land, to
carry out essential engineering works to prepare for future developments
associated with the Watford Riverwell scheme. This includes a new multi-storey
car park at Watford General which should be completed in 2020.
Staff and visitors are being encouraged to use alternative forms of transport or consider car sharing for the duration of these works, where possible.
There are many ways to reach Watford General including by mainline train (via
Watford Junction station), London overground (via Watford High Street station)
or London underground (via the Metropolitan line to Watford station).
Additionally, bus routes 10, 320 and 520 all serve Vicarage Road.
Drop off spaces are also available adjacent to the main clinical facilities,
including the cardiology and maternity buildings, for those who can be dropped
off by friends, family or taxis. The newly resurfaced overflow car park will
still be available whilst the works take place and the trust is providing
additional traffic management support to ensure parking areas are used to their
full capacity.
West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust’s
website includes further information on how to reach Watford General,
including walking routes and information on cycling.
Details of transport services for people who can't drive or use public transport
are available on Hertfordshire County Council’s
website.
Paddy Hennessy, Director of Environment at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS
Trust says: “I’d like to thank staff and visitors for their patience whilst the
engineering work takes place in our staff car park at Watford General. The work
is an important step in preparing for the new multi-storey car park, which will
significantly improve car parking at the hospital for the future. We’re sorry
for any inconvenience this may cause for staff, especially whilst they are
working so hard to provide the best care for our patients. We’re particularly
grateful to all members of staff and visitors who are using alternative forms of
transport and car sharing whilst we make these improvements.”
