Thomas Sawyer Way opened to both staff and the public in the early hours of Wednesday 16 November.

The previous access route via Vicarage Road is now for dropping off and disabled parking only.

Kevin Howell, director of environment, said: "We are aware that there are likely to be some initial teething problems over the first few weeks and I want to assure you that additional car parking staff will be on hand to ensure everyone gets to the right place. They will support both staff and patients during this transitional period."

Herts Highways has also unveiled new signage across the town that will help guide people to the right entrance on approach to the hospital.

Thomas Sawyer Way will help to speed up journey times for emergency vehicles accessing A&E, and over time it will also help to improve the flow of traffic on the roads surrounding the hospital and around Watford.
