Trust Receives Accolade in National Awards

Posted: December 4th 2009

The West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust was ‘highly commended’ in the finals of the prestigious Acute Healthcare Organisation of the Year category in the recent Health Service Journal (HSJ) national awards.

The Acute Organisation of the Year award is based on excellent performance across the whole organisation with clear evidence of real change. The Trust needed to show a joined-up organisation on a journey of continued and sustained improvement- not just a few pockets of excellence. The Trust proved that it was well managed, with professional and committed staff and demonstrated that it was an organisation with an energetic ‘can do’ culture.

Commenting on these awards, Trust Chairman, Professor Thomas Hanahoe said: "As a Trust we are delighted to have been awarded a Highly Commended in these very important awards. To be recognised nationally, alongside the elite of the NHS for the work we are doing is truly a magnificent achievement."

He added: "I would like to congratulate all our staff who have made this major achievement possible."

The HSJ Awards celebrate examples of excellence, innovation and inspiration throughout the NHS.
