Background:

Professional profile

I am a Consultant Physician with and interest in diabetes and endocrinology. I qualified at the University of Glasgow in 1984 and undertook specialist training initially in general practice and subsequently in acute general medicine. I undertook specialist training in diabetes and endocrinology in the UK and later at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.I spent a period of research into lipid metabolism before taking up my first consultant post in 1995.

I returned to the UK in 1998 and joined the team at Watford General Hospital in 2002. My areas of specialist interest include the management of thyroid disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome and adolescent diabetes. I have a strong interest in medical education and hold an Honorary Clinical Lecturer post with UCL/Royal Free Hospitals medical school.

Personal profile

Influenced greatly by my two children! As a family we enjoy skiing, spending time in Scotland and South Africa. I have a particular passion for bird watching and the study of wildlife. Middle age crisis looming I have decided to fulfil a lifelong desire and have taken up horse riding – which I thought was probably marginally safer than a large motorbike!
