Some statistics
- 1 in 4 women will be a victim of domestic abuse in their lifetime - many of these on a number of occasions*
- 1 in 6 men will be a victim of domestic abuse in their lifetime*
- One incident of domestic violence is reported to the police every minute*
- On average 2 women a week are killed by a current or former male partner*
- 1 in 9 is severely physically abused each year*
- 30 men a year are killed within a domestic abuse context†
Trust approach
- Trust is committed to support all aspects of domestic abuse including identifying links with forced marriages, hate crime, alcohol and substance misuse and child protection
- Awareness training within the Accident and Emergency department at Watford General Hospital
- Ante natal midwives and community midwives direct mums-to-be to the appropriate professional external organisation
- Collaborate work with the Sunflower Centre and the Watford Women's Refuge
- Patient information literature - business cards, leaflets and posters disseminated across all three Trust sites
- Staff support offered
