Patient and public involvement (PPI)
Patient and public involvement (PPI) explained
The NHS Plan, published in July 2000, aimed to make sure that patients and the public have a real say in how NHS services are planned and developed. Now Section 11 of the Health and Social Care Act 2001 places a duty on strategic health authorities, primary care trusts and NHS trusts, to make arrangements to involve and consult patients and the public in:
- Planning services they are responsible for.
- Developing and considering proposals for changes in the way those services are provided.
- Decisions to be made that effect how those services operate
