Children's Outpatients
About the Service / Department
The Children's Outpatient Service is run from Watford General Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital.
All our clinics are run by our team of Consultants or their registrars. Clinics run Monday to Friday, and we will book your appointment with the most appropriate consultant for your child's needs.
Appointments are booked directly with the parent/carer, and you will be offered a choice of date and time as far as is reasonably possible. We ask that you cancel any appointments that you cannot attend to give us the opportunity to offer the appointment to someone else on the waiting list. Our waiting target is currently less than 10 weeks.

Most of our clinics are classed as General Paediatric clinics but we do provide subspecialty clinics such as Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis, Oncology and Gastroenterology.
Referrals / Appointments
The department only accepts referrals from GPs and other healthcare professionals. We do not have any self-referral clinics.
If you think your child needs an appointment to see a Paediatrician, please speak to your GP who will be able to offer you advice, and who will refer you if appropriate. Your GP may refer you through the National Choose and Book system which books an appointment for you whilst still at your GP surgery.
If the referral is of an urgent nature your GP may fax a referral letter to the appropriate site. Please be assured referrals are dealt with as a matter of priority.

GPs can get same-day advice by using the Advice and Guidance function within choose and book or by ringing the main switchboard and asking for the Paediatric Registrar.
