Mr Simon Thomson, MD, MBChB, BSc(Hons); FRCS(Gen Surg), FRCSEd

Training/Background

Mr Thomson graduated from University of Manchester Medical School in 1989 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1993. He received his specialist registrar training in general surgery in North West Thames. He passed the Intercollegiate Specialty examination in 2001, subspecialty breast surgery, and obtained his CCST in General Surgery the following year.

He has been awarded two research degrees, MD for breast cancer work and BSc(Hons) in Anatomy.

His final year of training in breast surgery included attachments at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London and at the Christie and South Manchester Hospitals.

Special interests

Mr Thomson’s main special interest is breast surgery. He is experienced in outpatient assessments of all symptomatic breast patients and diagnostic / therapeutic procedures for breast cancer. 

NHS service

Mr Thomson was appointed in 2003 as Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in breast surgery and reconstruction at St Albans and Hemel Hempstead Hospitals. His practice is centred on the designated West Herts Breast Care Unit where he is the lead clinician.

He also provides a broad general service as part of the emergency on-call rota.
