Breast Awareness Month 2011
October was breast awareness month and over £200 was raised by the staff at the clinic for Breast Cancer Care. The achieved this by baking cakes and selling these within the department.
We would like to thank the general public for purchasing the cakes and donating to a worthy cause and also to our volunteers at Grove House who kindly assisted in selling the cakes.
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, successfully treated patients returned to St Albans City Hospital's Breast Care Unit to catch up with staff and raise awareness through local media. As well as seeing previous patients, BBC Three Counties Radio interviewed Trust Consultant for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Patient Raises £1,300 for the Breast Care Unit and MacMillan Nurses
Here's an extract from the accompanying letter:
"Just a short note to let you know how we raised the £1300 donation for you and the MacMillan Nurses at St Albans.
"As I had been given such caring support and assistance by you all, a group of Residents and Businesses in Rickmansworth, organised by my partner Tony decided that we would like to give something back. They put together a day of golf, lunch, dinner and games at our local golf course to celebrate
St.George's Day.
"People involved in the event all either donated, or went to our local business community to beg for gifts and prizes for the various activities. Which ranged from, of course, the golf, play your cards right, raffle and a St
George's day quiz, all of course with the view to raising money for you.
"The support and generosity of the people was astounding, even other passing golfers on the day who knew nothing about us dropped money into us! In addition to this, my company, Airwave runs a program to match collections to a limit, thus another £250. We held no bars in asking!
"It has to be admitted that the following day, a lot of the people could have done with medical attention themselves, but it was worth it. Tony organises this event every year and we always raise money for various charities but it was good to be able to give back to a group of people who have done so much for me."
Fundraising Event - February 2009
The St. Albans Breast Unit held its first fundraising event in February this year (2009). A charity ball was held on 7th February including an auction and raffle. Over 100 people attended the event.
Our professional photographers on the night were Jeanette and Kim from 'cocoonimaging.co.uk' and they took some lovely photographs some of which you can see below. Click on a thumbnail for a larger picture.
We would like to thank Jeanette and Kim, and also all our contributors who helped make the event a success. We managed to raise over £2500. The list of contributors are listed below.
Further fundraising events are to be planned, so please keep an eye on this page for dates of the future events. If you wish to make any donation to you can do this on line at www.justgiving.com/westhertfordshirenhs designating the Breast Care Unit.
