Katherine Ward - Post-natal Ward

If you have birthed your baby on delivery suite you will be taken to Katherine ward, the post-natal ward

It depends what type of birth you have had as to how long your stay is. If you have had a normal delivery and all is well it may still be possible to go home after 6 hours. After an instrumental delivery the stay is normally 24 hours and after a caesarean section normally 2 or 3 days. Each case is judged individually.

Katherine ward has 4 bedded bays. It is staffed by midwives, student midwives, nursery nurses, health care assistants and ward clerks. It is the busiest ward in the maternity block as not only are there 4 mums in each bay there are also 4 babies.

Every member of staff, led by their ward manager, is there to help you with your baby. Katherine ward also has the assistance of our infant feeding co-ordinator to help with difficult feeding issues.
