Ophthalmology

About the Service / Department

Our service has five consultants with expertise covering all areas ophthalmology (eye care).

Our staffing team also include speciality doctors (in Ophthalmology), ophthalmic nurses, optometrists, orthoptists, an ophthalmic technician as well as clerical and managerial staff.

The service offers a full range of outpatient services covering all general and specialist aspects of ophthalmology. Some of these specialities include medical retina disease, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and paediatric ophthalmology.

Minor operations and laser treatments are also carried out on a regular basis within the department.

We also have a dedicated age related macular degeneration team with recently upgraded facilities at Watford general hospital.

We have outpatient clinics at Watford General Hospital and at St Albans City Hospital.

Urgent eye clinic

Our Urgent eye clinic opens from 9am -16:30pm (last appointment 16.00pm)

The urgent eye clinic is a referral based clinic (we do not accept walk in patients).

Patients can be referred via their GP, A&E and opticians.
