More about Infection prevention and control

What patients and visitors can do

Patients and visitors can help reduce the spread of infection by following a few basic guidelines.

  • Hand hygiene is very important. Wash your hands frequently - especially before eating and after going to the toilet
  • Use hand rub before entering and leaving ward areas. This is available at the entrance of all wards
  • Do not sit on patients' beds
  • Do not visit if not feeling well
  • It is not advisable to bring young children into the hospital

Inform staff as soon as possible if you have any concerns.

Some patients may need to be nursed in isolation to help protect themselves or others from infection. Ward staff will advise on precautions that may be necessary.
