Light Treatment

For what conditions is Light Treatment (also known as photo therapy) given?
  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema
  • Mycosis fungoides (an unusual form of skin malignancy)
  • Vitiligo (loss of skin pigment)
How is dermatology light treatment given?
  • Ultraviolet light treatment is given by experienced dermatology nurses
  • The treatment is carefully measured and controlled
  • Treatments are usually two or three times weekly for six weeks
What are the different types of light treatment?
  • TL01 narrow band UVB phototherapy
  • PUVA. This is long wave ultraviolet light with psoralens (a plant extract which sensitises the skin to ultraviolet light)
