Professional profile

I qualified at the Medical School (Charité) of the Humboldt University Berlin, Germany in 1996. In the course of my medical training I started a research project looking at the links between exercise physiology and pulmonary vasomotor control in patients with chronic heart failure.

During my Junior Doctor post I worked in the Cardiology Department of the Charité and at the Heart and Lung Transplant Unit of the German Heart Centre Berlin. My special interests, at that time, were chronic heart failure and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

From 2000 to 2003 I worked as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Royal Brompton Hospital under the supervision of Professor Andrew Coats. My research fields have been cardiopulmonary exercise physiology and reflex control in chronic heart failure.

Between 2003 to 2009 I worked at the University Hospital of the University of Regensburg, Germany. During that time I completed my clinical training in General Medicine and Cardiology and developed special interest in Echocardiography.

Personal profile

I am married with four children and obviously I spend a lot of my spare time with the family. I have a strong interest in cardiovascular research with the focus on heart failure and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

My hobbies include sailing and skiing.
